Alexis: One Year Old!

Today our darling girl turned one year old!  The past year was the best one of our entire lives!:) Happy birthday, Alexis!

Alexis, here's what you have been up to this month:
  • We don't know your official stats, but you probably weigh about 20.5 lbs.
  • You are wearing 12 month clothes, size 4 diapers, and size 4 shoes.
  • You are a full-time walker!  You have even started trying to run!  You are a busy, busy girl.
  • You have added a few new words to your vocabulary.  You can say daddy, mama, doggy (your current fav), and ball.  You also say something like "zhee-zhee" for Mickey Mouse.:)
  • You still have 8 teeth.
  • You are officially done nursing, as of today.  It makes Mama sad and happy at the same time.  I have absolutely loved that sweet time with you every day.
  • Lately, you have been super hungry!  You are not a very patient girl when your belly is growling...you get that from your daddy.:)
  • I think that I can finally say that you are sleeping clear through the night.  We put you down around 8pm and do not see you again until you wake up for the day around 7:30am!  Yeehaw!
  • You still nap twice a day.  Your naps can last anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours.
  • Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is still your very favorite thing to watch on tv.  It makes you SO happy!
  • You love to throw anything you can get your hands on.  Then you chase it down, pick it up, and throw it again.  You can do this for a long time!
  • You love to dance!  You do this new move where you shake your head from left to right...Daddy calls it the "Stevie Wonder.":)
  • You love to play outside!  You try to eat everything you see on the ground, including rocks, mulch, and dead leaves.
  • You can blow kisses, wave bye-bye, and clap when someone says, "Yay!"
  • You love to "read" books to yourself.  You will sit and turn pages in a book by yourself for a long time.
My sweet baby,

The past year has been the best and hardest year of my life.  Being a mommy is the thing that I wanted to do the most in my whole life and God gave me the amazing gift of being yours.  It hasn't always been easy, but I have honestly loved every minute of it.  Your bright eyes and sweet smile light up my life.  You are sassy and onery and loving and funny.  I thank God for giving us the miracle of your life every single day and I cannot wait to watch you continue to grow!  I love you, my punky!

Mama

My sweet girl,

I love you more than you can ever imagine. The words I write on this page will never do it justice. You are truly the apple of my eye and I thank God every day for the blessing you are to your mom and I. I love absolutely everything about you and there is not one thing I would change. I love how your smile brightens the day of anyone lucky enough to be around you. I love how your laugh can fill a room and melt my heart. I love how you wave at me through the window and crawl to me at the door when I come home from work. It is an honor to be your dad and I promise to do the best I can for you. You are a true miracle in our lives and I can't wait to see what the future holds for you. I love you, sweet baby!

Siesta Scripture Memory Team: Verse 8

Holy moly!  Time for verse #8!  Here it is...a continuation from verse #7:

"Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight." 1 Peter 3:4

Catch Up

Time to play catch up!  Here's some photos of things we've been up to lately:
We took Lex swimming at the YMCA again a couple of weeks ago and she liked it!  Yay!  She really prefers to swim with Daddy.
It's finally started to warm up and we've been able to get outside a little bit!
Lex LOVES to be outside, but doesn't love grass!  She is slowly warming up to it, but she's very hesitant to walk in the grass.
Daddy and his girl enjoying the sunshine
I picked up a Minnie Mouse coloring book for Alexis and we tried coloring for the first time.  She did pretty well for a while...
...and then got VERY mad when Mama wouldn't let her eat the crayons!  Ha!:)
Speaking my hubby's love language...guns!:)
Lex got a new ball for Easter and she loves it!
Last weekend, we got to go out with Shane and Michele and Lucas and Anna!  It was so fun to just hang out without our kiddos and enjoy each other's company.  I can't wait until next time!!

Lex's First Easter...Part 1!

I can hardly believe that we just celebrated Lex's last "first" holiday...Easter!  We started our festivities on Palm Sunday with an Easter egg hunt at Great Grandma Barkley's house.
Alexis and Mama getting ready to find eggs!
She was actually kind of interested in finding her eggs!:)
On the Saturday night before Easter, we went to Pat and Linda's to celebrate with them.  Lex had to eat a snack before she opened her Easter basket.:)
With her Grammy and Grandpa!
She got a fun Minnie Mouse towel, a new ball, and a replacement Pat the Bunny book in her basket.  We had a fun time together with the family!

Siesta Scripture Memory Team: Verse #7

Shew!  What a week!  Alexis had a yucky virus that presented with only a fever on Monday and Tuesday.  By Wednesday, it had progressed to the start of an ear infection and she was not a happy girl.:(  We saw the doctor and started an antibiotic and she is acting SO much better today!  Praise the Lord!  I missed my girl's smile so much.  Anyhow, I'm a little late with verse #7, but here we go!

"Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes." 1 Peter 3:3

I will be memorizing verse 4 next time.  I love these verses!  Such a great reminder for women.  I hope I can live this out as an example for my sweet baby and I hope she will cling to it, as well!
